Global This, not Global That

Hi everyone,

Firstly, I want to acknowledge that I have not sent this newsletter out on Wednesday! My “last-minute” approach to getting stuff done has caught up with me. The “last-minute” process also means that the quality of content is not up to standard either.

From next week, this will not happen again. I also hope you see an improvement in the quality of content hitting your inbox!

An interesting thing I have noticed is when I start to look into the recycling industry, rather than plastics and supermarkets, I get CONFUSED! This week’s article was going to look into recycling and build on my case for plastic-free supermarkets. One thing is sticking out at me like a sore thumb! While we have GLOBAL brands and global supply chains for consuming goods, there are no GLOBAL brands or standards for recycling. Pockets of great stuff are happening in Sweden with Glass Recycling and South Korea with plastic recycling. But it’s fragmented. Sweden’s most prominent exports are IKEA and Volvo. South Korea has Samsung and Hyundai. These are global brands we have come to trust.

This got me thinking…

Why are there no global recycling brands?

Why is recycling left to consumers and local councils?

Do we need global recycling brands or global brands to integrate recycling into their supply chains?

So many questions. If you have encountered any articles about these topics or know anyone who can help me, please let me know or send them my way!

Until next WEDNESDAY
